Lalaini Kovapalu - Owner Manager
Lalaini Kovapalu, the hotel's proprietress, is a fount of local knowledge and is passionate about her island, its people, and its environment.
She is very well-versed in the culture, history and folklore of Tonga and enjoys spending time with her guests after supper, entertaining them with past stories and present intrigues.
Lalaini says: "Come and stay with us at Hilltop. Like our many other guests who return, we will make you feel at home and a part of our family."
Our island is our home, so doing whatever we can to protect our local environment and support our people is a way of life. At Hilltop Hotel we have in place a range of sustainable practices for both the environment and social responsibility.
Sustainable Practices:
- Solar powered heating to main hot water supply
- Support local producers/suppliers
- Energy reduction programme in place
- Recycle waste.
Social Responsibility:
- Provide work opportunities for local community
- Upgrade skills of staff from previously disadvantaged communities through ongoing in-house
training.
- Education sponsorship programme for deserving children of staff
- ‘Promote from within' policy
- Donate used furnishings to needy causes within the local community
- Pass on used guest toiletries to the local underprivileged.
