‘Alaki village's women revamped the site where upon arrangement they gather and display their local handicrafts for tourists to admire and purchase, helping to keep these local traditions alive, allow tourists to learn more about the process, and help to provide sustainable income for these local women.
Other demonstrations include the process of preparing the Tongan tapa, Tongan mats, hats and bags; how the Tongan ‘Umu is prepared and cooked; and the graceful traditional Tongan solo dance to the sound of the old ‘Ukulele.
Or you can spend the day paddling a Tongan canoe in the calm lagoon before enjoying the refreshment of Tongan seasonal fruits and sweet coconut milk, and after having the cooked ‘umu for lunch.
